Our courses will change the way you look at wood whether your main interest is in axes, timber or just learning a new skill.

Learn the core techniques safely and enjoyably. We can teach you fundamental axe techniques as you work on a freshly felled tree and produce a final piece that you will have transformed entirely by hand.

The location for these courses is the unique and historic Hatfield Forest. This National Trust site offers a dedicated classroom and catering in one of the most beautiful and prestigious forest locations in the country. Hatfield Forest is centrally located in Takeley, Essex, and close to major transport links to all parts of the country.

The next course will take place on 25/26 June 2011.

The price is £240.00 and includes the following:

• Protective Equipment including chainmail safety leggings

• Food and drink (meat and veggie option lunch provided)

• A great range of gransfors axes plus sharpening equipment.

• Timber. We will be using western red cedar and carving a tapering obelisk in a car friendly size so you can take it home with you as a garden ornament to wow your friends and family with your new found axe skills!

The course will cover Axe history and selection, sharpening, setting out and marking up of timber, timber selection.
